Common questions
- How much profit margin should I add to a service?
- Most independent beauty pros aim for a 20–40% margin on top of product, labor, and overhead. Below 15% you have no cushion for slow weeks, price increases from suppliers, or time off.
- What counts as overhead per service?
- Take your monthly fixed costs — booth rent or suite rent, insurance, software, card fees, laundry, licensing — and divide by the number of services you perform in a month. That's your overhead per service.
- Should I raise my prices all at once?
- Usually no. Give existing clients 30 days notice and move to the new price for new bookings immediately. Raising in steps of 10–15% keeps retention high while you close the gap.
